Why the surface cleaner matters

A surface cleaner is a round hood with a spinning bar and two or more nozzles underneath. It rides on the concrete, so the nozzle height never changes and every pass hits the surface the same way. That is what gives you a uniform finish instead of the arcs and stripes you get from a wand. It also keeps overspray down, which matters on a Miami lot where the neighbour's car is six feet from your driveway. We still use the wand, but for the edges, the apron and the expansion joints where the hood does not reach.

Oil, rust and iguanas: three stains, three fixes

Pressure does not remove a stain. It removes what is sitting on top of the concrete. Oil has soaked in, so it gets a degreaser and time to work before the surface cleaner goes over it. Rust from a sprinkler head or a patio chair is a chemical stain and gets a rust remover, never more pressure, which spreads it. Iguana droppings and mango drop are organic and lift with the same pre-treatment as the algae. Each one is its own step, and each one is in the quote when we see it.

Pavers, Chicago brick and the old Miami driveway

A lot of older Miami homes have paver drives, salvaged Chicago brick or coral stone walks, and none of them want full pressure. The joints are sand, the faces are soft, and a wand at close range pits the surface and blows the sand out. We drop the pressure, lean on the pre-treatment, keep the surface cleaner moving and rinse gently so the joints stay full. If the sand is already gone we say so, because a wash will not put it back.

Will pressure washing damage my driveway?

Not when it is done with a surface cleaner at the right pressure and height. Damage happens when someone holds a bare wand too close and etches lines into the concrete. If your driveway is old or flaking, text a photo to 786-985-1684 and we will tell you what is safe.

Can you get the oil stain out?

Usually, yes. Fresh drips lift with a degreaser and dwell time. Oil that has soaked into the concrete for years lightens a lot but can leave a shadow. Send a photo to 786-985-1684 and we will be honest about it before we quote.

Do you pressure wash pavers?
